Thursday

Paris, 29 Decembré 1795,

I wake filled with thoughts of you.

Your portrait and the intoxicating evening which we spent yesterday have left my senses in turmoil. Sweet, incomparable Joséphine, what a strange effect you have on my heart!

Are you angry? Do I see you looking sad? Are you worried? ...

My soul aches with sorrow, and there can be no rest for you lover; but is there still more in store for me when, yielding to the profound feelings which overwhelm me, I draw from your lips, from your heart a love which consumes me with fire?

Ah! It was last night that I fully realized how false an image of you your portrait gives!

You are leaving at noon; I shall see you in three hours.
Until then, mio dolce amor, a thousand kisses;
but give me none in return, for they set my blood on fire.

Napoleon Bonaparte was one of the greatest military commanders in history. He has also been portrayed as a power hungry conqueror. Napoleon denied those accusations. He argued that he was building a federation of free peoples in a Europe united under a liberal government. But if this was his goal, he intended to achieve it by taking power in his own hands. However, in the states he created, Napoleon granted constitutions, introduced law codes, abolished feudalism, created efficient governments and fostered education, science, literature and the arts.

Napoleon loved Joséphine for sure. But, for political and state reason he had to divorce her and married the Austrian princess, Marie Louise, of course to get support from the Hapsburg Dynasty.

And, you know what?
On May 5th 1821, a moment before he took his last breath,
he only could say these four things;

"France, Armée, Tête d'Armée, Joséphine.

France, Army, Head of The Army, Joséphine.

Anything happened by the time.
People changed by the day.
Only true love, will always stay the same.

Sometimes, perhaps, it really makes no sense.
But... what else can we do?
